Townline Updates from Dr. Haack

Dear Townline Families,

I hope this finds you well. Here are few updates for Townline!

Girls on the Run (Open to girls in grades 3,4, and 5)

We have already had our sign-up for Girls on the Run (GOTR), but now have 2 additional coaches and can take 10 additional girls. This program works to help girls realize and appreciate their inner strength and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. If you any questions, feel free to contact Denise Martin(martind@hawthorn73.org or 847-990-4989).

  • Apply online at https://www.gotrchicago.org/Register-Now OR call the bilingual (English/Spanish) call center (312) 224-8385.  The call center is open Monday-Friday 9am-5pm until the start of the season. When registering online, the school site is under Hawthorn Townline/School of Dual Language.

  • The fee is $155.

  • Scholarships may be available.

  • GOTR meetings will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays starting in early March and ends at the end of the school year.

  • Practices are held at Townline School until 4:30.

Read Across America Day

Townline will celebrate Read Across America Day on February 28.  Our entire school will take a break from our regular schedule to stop and read for a set time in the day.  Read Across America is an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association that began in 1997. One part of the project is National Read Across America Day, an observance in the United States held on the school day closest to March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss.

Thank yous

Thank you to all of the parents who helped support our school by volunteering for the book fair or purchasing books for your child from the book fair.  We could not have the great selection of books in our school library without the support we receive from the book fair.

Thank you to the many families who completed the 5Essentials parent survey.  We greatly appreciate the time you took to complete the survey. We had a 29% completion rate for this survey which surpassed the minimum amount needed to receive results.  We look forward to receiving the results later on this school year.

Thank you to the many parents who have volunteered their time to help out in classrooms.  We appreciate mystery readers, group helpers, reading buddies, party leaders, field trip volunteers, classroom supporters, and the many other countless tasks volunteers help out with.  If you are interested in helping out in the school, please contact your child’s teacher to find out about volunteer opportunities.

Student Report Card Reminder

As you may know, Hawthorn Middle School South and Hawthorn Middle School North no longer generate paper copies of student report cards. Instead, they share report cards with families electronically. In an effort to better streamline our communication with all district families, we are working to make this same transition at the elementary level. Benefits to online report cards include more timely reporting to parents, easy parent access to both current and past report cards, and reduced costs tied to paper and printing. Online report cards are also environmentally friendly! If you would prefer to receive a paper copy of your child’s report card, please contact our main office at 847.990.4901  and we will print one for you. We are looking forward to providing you with easy access to your child’s progress reports via electronic reporting!

In preparation, you may want to visit the PowerSchool Parent Portal at https://ps.hawthorn73.org/public and log into your secure account. If you do not remember your username or password, please click “Forgot username or password?” on the PowerSchool Parent Portal homescreen. On March 19th, we will share instructions for how you may easily open and even download your child’s report card in this portal.
