A Letter from Dr. Haack

Happy New Year Townline families,

I hope you had an enjoyable winter break with family and friends.  Here are a few updates!

Mid Year Benchmark Assessments

It is the time of year where students participate in mid year benchmark assessments.  Kindergarten and 1st grade students will be benchmarked during the next two weeks using FASTBridge in both reading and math.  2nd-5th grade students will be taking the winter NWEA MAP assessment Monday, January 13 and Wednesday, January 15. Please help your child by ensuring they get plenty of sleep and a healthy breakfast.

Early Release

Thursday, January 16 is an early release day.  Students will be dismissed at 12:20pm. If there are any changes to your child’s transportation schedule due to the early release, please contact our office at 847.990.4901 or send a note with your child.

Winter Weather

It has finally snowed!  In order for students to play in the snow during recess, they must wear a coat, boots, a hat, gloves and snow pants.  If students do not have all of these items, they will be limited to the blacktop area. Additionally, please label all items that may be easily lost!  This will help with the return of items to their owner.

Kids Heart Challenge

Your child will be starting a jump rope unit in their physical education classes on February 3, 2020. In conjunction with this jump rope unit, we will be participating in a fundraiser called the “Kids Heart Challenge” benefiting the American Heart Association. All students will be jumping rope during gym class, but it is voluntary to collect donations for the American Heart Association. Throughout the school year, we discuss keeping our heart and body healthy through exercise and diet. This exciting school-based project stimulates your son’s/daughter’s interest in physical activity and exercise, while supporting the fundraising efforts of the American Heart Association.

All participants returning their donations will receive prizes based on the total amount of pledges turned in by February 7th, which is the last day of the Kids Heart Challenge event. The prizes are the American Heart Association’s way of saying “thank you” to the participants.  If you have questions about this unit or fundraiser, please contact your child’s PE teacher.
