Happy Halloween

Calling all Elementary Parents! The PTO sponsored Halloween Parties are scheduled for next Friday, October 30! In order to make the parties successful, we need your help. We are sending home the craft activity for the party in the supply bags, which needs to be set aside for the party. (PK-2nd grade have a small white bag, and 3rd-5th grade have a large black bag). The kids will also need their whiteboard and a marker handy, and don’t forget, we are encouraging all students to wear their costumes!  Thank you so much for helping to make the parties a success! Happy Halloween from your PTO!

When planning your child’s Halloween costume, please remember the following: Weapons, light sabers and other suggestions of violence, including fake blood, are not allowed.

We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week next week!  Please encourage your child to participate through these fun dress up days!  More information about each day can be found here

Monday, October 26: Wear RED day

Tuesday, October 27: Jersey Day

Wednesday, October 28: Bright Color Day

Thursday, October 29: Pajama Day

Friday, October 30: Say BOO to Drugs Day/Costume Day

Virtual Conferences

Please be on the lookout for conference sign ups from your child’s classroom teacher this week.   Conferences will take place virtually on Monday, November 23 after school hours and the morning of Tuesday, November 24.

Zoom Reminders

As a friendly reminder, now that we are mid-way through our first trimester and time has been provided for families to prepare and adjust home learning spaces, all students are expected to turn their video on when participating in Zoom Rooms. This allows us to better assess student engagement, understanding, and well-being. We understand and  appreciate that virtual backgrounds or other backdrops used in the home may support some, but not all privacy needs. If you or your child have a concern, question, or need support creating a remote learning space, please connect with me. If your child does not already use video during synchronous instruction, please help to ensure readiness by October 26th. Thank you!

Community Resources

Com Ed has bill assistance options available to help those struggling with past-due balances.  If you could benefit from additional support to pay your electric bill, please call  1-800-EDISON1 (1-800-334-7661), M-F, 7am-7pm. Illinois School Report Card

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) is scheduled to release the 2020 School Report Cards on October 30th via www.illinoisreportcard.com. While a summative designation will be given to each school, it is a reissuance of the designation received in 2019. This was required by the ESSA Assessment and Accountability Waiver that Illinois received in March 2020, as most of the data used by the accountability system is not available to calculate a new 2020 designation. For more information about School Report Cards for 2020, please click here. You are also welcome to visit our district website at www.hawthorn73.org/hawthorn- information/essa for information and resources regarding the Illinois ESSA Plan and the 2019 Illinois School Report Cards.
